Reps Hail NDDC Procurement Process
The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Public Procurement, Hon. Olajumoke Okoya-Thomas, has commended the pace of work at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Specialist and Orthopedic hospital under construction in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
She was speaking shortly after inspecting the project in company of her committee members as part of their oversight functions.
“We are here as part of our oversight functions to see that Nigerians get value for money. What we have seen, gives us hope that NDDC is on track”, said the House Procurement Committee chairman.
Briefing the committee on the project, NDDC Managing Director, Dr. Christian Oboh, said the specialist hospital, being built in partnership with the Rivers State Government, comprises orthopedic and cardiovascular units.
He disclosed that when completed, the hospital would deal with the correction of disorders in the skeletal system, associated muscles, joints and ligaments while the cardiovascular unit would treat conditions affecting the heart.
Dr. Oboh revealed that the commission plans to construct similar hospitals in Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa and Delta states to discourage medical tourism abroad by Nigerians.
Earlier, during a courtesy call at NDDC Corporate Headquarters, the managing director assured the committee of the commission’s commitment to the Procurement Act.
