Rainstorm De-Roofs Houses In Edo
Several buildings in the Owan East and West Local Government Areas of Edo State last Friday had their roofs blown off, following a heavy rainstorm.
The rain, which lasted for about an hour also destroyed some electricity poles.
The area mostly affected by the rainstorm was Uakhimi Community in Owan East, where most houses in the area had their roofs blown off.
While few houses in Sabongidda-Ora were affected by the rainstorm, the entire council area, however, had been in darkness as electricity poles had been destroyed by the rainstorm.
Some residents, who spoke with newsmen, said they were taken by surprise by the development, appealing for assistance from relevant government authorities.
According to a resident of the community, Mr Ifejeh Ojei: “we had just finished dinner and were relaxing outside when the rain started.
“You can see for yourself what happened but am only thankful to God that no life was lost. Not only was my roof blown off but my property was affected by the sad incident.
Another resident, Mohammed Aliu, said, “we really need government to come to our aid at this critical moment in our lives’’.
Effort to speak with officials of the council proved abortive.
