Police Games’ll Foster Unity, Says Amaechi

The ongoing Police Games in Port Harcourt has been described as one of the activities that will foster unity in the country.

Rivers State Governor and Chairman of Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF), Rt Hon Chibuike Amaechi made the  assertion yesterday during a chat with newsmen at the opening ceremony of the 10th Biennial Nigeria Police Games in Port Harcourt.

Aside that, Amaechi said, “this is a place we will discover those who will represent the country in various sports”, while lauding the police for choosing Rivers State as venue for  the competition.

Amaechi expressed the hope that the Rivers State Police Command would emerge tops, considering the feat recorded by the state contingent at the National Sports Festival.

He further lauded the police for the effort it made in restoring peace in the state, as he welcomed all the state contingent to Rivers State.

Last Friday, Governor Amaechi had received the deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Suleiman Fakai, Administrative Officer in –charge of sports in the force headquarters, Abuja in Government House, Port Harcourt.

The governor, who promised to make available the new Amiesimaka Sports City free of charge, said the state government was ready to partner the police to ensure the smooth hosting of the festival.

Meanwhile, President Goodluck Jonathan has described the Nigeria Police Games as  a front runner in sports development in Nigeria.

Speaking through the Minister of Sports and chairman of National Sports Commission, Bolaji Abdullahi, Dr Jonathan observed that the police had laid foundation for the discovery of exceptional talents that had made the country proud.
