NUJ Seeks Insurance Scheme For Journalists

The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), has demanded for the introduction of insurance scheme for journalists throughout the country to guarantee their safety.

This was stated in a statement by the Chairman, NUJ Jigawa State chapter, Comrade Ali Safiyau.

Comrade Safiyau said the insurance scheme programme would provide an enabling working environment for the union members and promote professionalism among journalists in the country.

The union chairman said the proposed insurance scheme would restore confidence in the practising of their profession.

The union leader urged the national leadership of the union to implement the insurance scheme without unnecessary delay.

He said journalists in the country are threatened daily by circumstances beyond in the performance of their professional responsibilities.

He tasked the national leadership on the implementation of the union’s capacity building initiative and other welfare development programme for the union members throughout the country.
