Man, 36, In Court For Issuing Dud Cheque
A 36-year-old, Mr Freeeborn Ndinenwa residing at Elekahia in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area of Rivers State has been arraigned before a Port Harcourt chief magistrate court for alleged fraudulent practices.
The accused is standing trial on one court charge of issuing a dud cheque and criminal matters before Chief Magistrate E.C. Woke.
The prosecuting police officer, Sergeant Aaron Nsirem told the court that the accused on the 17th day of August, 2012 1-3-2012, 24-5-2012 and 19th November, 2012 at Elekahia Port Harcourt within the Port Harcourt Magisterial District with intent to defraud did issue to one Igoni Edward, five GTB Bank cheques with numbers, 41777683, 53742330,41777673,53742320 and 41777688 for a sum of one hundred and seven thousand naira (107,000.00).
The prosecutor averred that he was fully aware that there was no sufficient fund in the said account to his credit and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 3 (2) and punishable under section 6 (2) of the special tribunal misdemeanour offences decree No. 20 of 1984.
The accused, however, pleaded with the court to tamper justice with mercy, adding that he has paid part of the money.
The presiding Chief Magistrate, E.C. Woke granted the accused bail to the tune of N100,000, with one surety in like sum. The surety should deposit 4 passports and sworn affidavit of means, while the police prosecutor is to verify the residence of the surety which, according to him, must be within the jurisdiction of the court.
