Imo Assembly Passes N30.4bn Supplementary Budget
The Imo House of Assembly has passed a supplementary budget of N30.4 billion for 2012 fiscal year.
The House passed the budget in Owerri last Tuesday at the executive session during its plenary.
The Chairman of the House Committee on Budget and Appropriation, Dr Eudora Igwe (APGA Ideato South), said the budget was appropriated following the crucial need to supplement the 2012 budget.
She said that the supplementary budget would go a long way in assisting the governor to complete some projects that were captured in the 2012 budget.
The Speaker of the House, Benjamin Uwajumogu, said that the budget was passed at the executive session of the House based on majority votes.
Meanwhile, the Imo State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Mr Best Mbanaso, has expressed the state government’s readiness to partner with local and foreign investors to boost the state’s economy.
Mbanaso made the remarks in Owerri last Tuesday when he received a delegation of the Enugu Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (ENCIMA).
He said that the current administration in the state meant well for the people, adding that its plan was to make Imo State better.
He described trade fairs as necessary avenues to showcase goods and services produced in the state, and enjoined the commerce department to sensitise entrepreneurs in the state on its advantage.
“With trade fairs and exhibitions, a marketer can attract patronage for his or her products,’’ he said.
Earlier, the President of ENCIMA, Dr Theophilus Okonkwo, appealed to the state government to participate actively in the forthcoming Enugu International Trade Fair.
He also stressed the importance of trade fairs, pointing out that it would enable participants to interact with international investors, and commended Governor Rochas Okorocha, for his developmental projects in the state.
