Home Video Dealers Decry Poor Sales

Gone are the days when home video dancers enjoyed a thriving business as a result of public patronage. Today, most of them have closed their shops  due to poor sales. While some of them have found alternative  means of survival, others have joined the labour market.

According to one of the dealers, Mr. Ignatius Okon, who spoke with The Tide  entertainment recently, when he started his business 10 years ago, things were moving well and he earned a decent living with his family, but today he could hardly feed his family due to bad business.

Mr. Okon attributed his plight to the advent of cable televisions that show those movies. He noted that even the big marketers of these movies sell newly released movies to ‘You Tube’ on the net a day after the release of such movies in Idumeta.

For instance HITV as a pay TV has the consideration of all sexes in mind and they have adequately taken care of all the kids with an array of kiddies channels such as Nickledon, Kidsco among others while top range of Hollywood and Nollywood movies are being shown in Hi movies, Hi Nolly and High mix respectively.

He stressed that people now prefer to watch these movies on the net instead of patronising. He said the development has affected them negatively and has contributed to the increase in unemployment rate across the country. He, therefore, appealed to the relevant authorities to come to their aid by finding a lasting solution to their plight.

Meanwhile, movie buffs are crazy about two movies in the market namely, Soul Transfer 1 and 2 and Sorrow of the ‘Orphan’.

Soul Transfer is about Genger and Muzinda who believe and see their husband master as their god but never know that their souls were tied to each other.

The flick features top Nollywood role interpreters such as Van Vika, Chika Ike and Mercy Johnson. Produced by Onyekachukwu Afube and directed by Ifeanyi Ogbonna.

‘Sorrows of the orphan’ on the other hand is a story of love, bliss and affection, but in one night everything changed, she lost her parents, their wealth, her peace and dignity to a gang of dare devil criminals, turning her into a lonely orphan, feeding on nothing but tears and sorrow.

The movie produced by Onyemachi  Udeh features seasoned Nollywood actors namely Ngozi Ezeonu, Olu Jacobs etc.
