FRSC Denies Recruitment Of Workers

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), says it did not recruit personnel in 2012 as claimed by the Chairman, Federal Character Commission, Prof. Shuaibu Oba, at Senate Committee’s hearing.

This is contained in a statement issued in Abuja by Mr Jonas Agwu, the commission’s Public Education Officer in Abuja recently.

The statement explained that it was the training of successful candidates in 2011 recruitment that spilled over to 2012 and not a fresh recruitment.

Oba had at the Senate Joint Committee on Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Affairs, and Labour and Employment, alleged that FRSC recruited 6,000 officers in 2012, saying the exercise was faulty and illegal.

The statement said the commission had an approved establishment of 18,834 in 2010 when its staff strength stood at 13,092.

“In view of this, an approval was sought and received from the Head of Civil Service of the Federation to recruit in 2010 but was carried out in 2010/2011.

“The FRSC also received approved establishment of 20,012 staff, upon which it sought and got waiver from the Head of Civil Service of the Federation to recruit additional personnel.

“This approval was utilised in 2011 and the successful candidates were sent for training in December 2011, which lasted up to February, 2012 and were issued appointment letters. “Our policy on recruitment, training and deployment is such that we do not issue appointment letters until a recruit/cadet passes out from training camp.

“For the avoidance of doubt, we wish to reiterate that the corps did not recruit any staff in 2012 neither did it involve in any form of recruitment scam.

“The FRSC has a centralised system of recruitment, training and deployment, all of which are carried out at the National Headquarters.

“Upon deployment, new staff report to their various commands where they are documented and their commanding officers subsequently forward their assumption of duty certificates for inclusion in the payroll,” it added.

The statement said that in the wake of a wide spread recruitment scam in January, the FRSC issued a disclaimer warning the public against patronising such fraudsters.
