Entertainment Industry Records Four Deaths In February
It seems to be the very first time the Nigerian Entertainment industry has experienced four deaths in one month. The ugly incidents that happened in the month of February have never occured in the industry before.
On the 14th of February, while the world was celebrating St Valentine, Susan “Goldie” Harvey, Nigeria’s daring singer died. The stage performances of this Kennis music star earned her the crown of Nigeria’s Lady Gaga.
As if the shock of her untimely death was not enough, a three time Secretary General of the Lagos State chapter of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Lugard Ononyemu passed on in the afternoon of the same day. He slumped and died at the National Stadium where he was training for the highly celebrated football march between the Sun Newspaper and AGN.
While the whole of the industry was mourning the death of Goldie and Lugard, little did they know that yet another popular Abuja-based actor, Collins Ifeanyichukwu was dying in the hospital and finally passed on during the early hours of February 15. Another veteran Actor and Village headmaster, Justus Esiri passed on February 19. The father of hip hop singer, Dr. Sid was 71 years before he died of diabetes.
It would be recalled that before these great entertainers, the Actors Guild of Nigeria had lost some of their great role interpreters such as Sam Loco Efe, Pete Eneh and Enebeli Elebuwa amongst others.
It is indeed a great loss to the entertainment industry and we pray it does not happen again at least for now since death is inevitable.
