The Area Controller, Sokoto/Kebbi/Zamfara Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Mr Bamidele Akande, says the command collected N43.3 million revenue in February 2013.

Akande told newsmen in Sokoto that proactive measures were being taken to ensure the command met its revenue targets.

Our correspondent learnt that the command generated N45 million revenue in January.

“Already, officers deployed to border areas have been directed to ensure that owners of all vehicles coming into the country pay their customs duties,’’ he said.

The area controller said that officers had been directed to liaise with traditional and religious leaders on ways to mobilise their subjects to assist in preventing smuggling.

“We will intensify our community-based approach to prevent and arrest any smuggler around our areas of jurisdiction,’’ he said.

Akande advised officers and men of the command to re-double their efforts in conducting their primary assignments.
