Court Remands Four Over Robbery
A Port Harcourt Chief Magistrate Court has remanded four accused persons in prison custody for an alleged attempted armed robbery.
The accused persons, Yusuf Taiwo, 25, Tamuno Eguremie, 25, Friday Otara, 38, and Addeh Lazarus, 30 are standing trial on three count charge, attempted armed robbery, possession of illegal fire arms before Chief Magistrate Emmanuel Woke.
The Prosecuting Police Officer, Inspector Godwin Nwinam told the court that the accused persons on the 8th of April, 2012, along Refinery Road, Eleme, Rivers State in the Port Harcourt Magisterial District did conspire among themselves to commit felony to wit: attempted armed robbery.
The prosecutor also told the court that the accused on the same date and time while armed with locally made pistols attempted to commit robbery, adding that the accused persons were un able to give satisfactory account on how they came about the arms when accosted.
He alleged that the accused persons committed an offence punishable under section 516 A, 403 and 428 (d) of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol. 11 Laws of the Rivers State of Nigeria 1999.
The accused persons were not allowed to take any plea on the charges brought against them.
The presiding chief Magistrate, Emmanuel Woke remanded the accused persons in prison custody and directed that the original case files be forwarded to the office of Department of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice on the matter.
