Some communities in Gombe State have appealed for the siting of more Millenium Development Goals (MDGs) projects in their areas.

The appeal was made during an advocacy visit by officials of the Gombe State office of the MDGs in Shongom and Kaltungo local government areas in the state.

The District Head of Bangunji, Alhaji Ali Bariki, appealed for the intervention of the MDGs, saying people of the area were facing serious water problem.

“We in Banguji have not felt the impact of MDGs, we want you to come and execute some projects there.

“In fact, some of my people are migrating from my area to the neighbouring area due to the problem of water supply.”

Also, the District Head of Burak, Mr Gondak Garba, who commended MDGs for its conditional cash transfer (CCT) scheme, however, advised that the scheme be expanded to accommodate more people.

“We are enjoying the scheme but the number of people engaged is very inadequate.

“More people need to be engaged in the scheme because we have many disabled and less-privileged people in our area.”

In Kaltungo, the Council Chairman, Mr.Musa Buba, expressed happiness over the MDGs plan to include the area in its project execution this year.

The chairman said Kaltungo was a large local government with many rural communities yet to benefit from such projects.

He, however, decried a situation where the people expected government to do everything for them, including securing and maintaining projects executed in their domains.

The chairman called on traditional rulers and religious leaders to compliment government’s efforts by mobilising their people for self-help projects.
