Chime Hails Senate’s Probe Of Mystery Corpses

The Senate has been commended for constituting  a committee to investigate the resent dumping of over twenty corpses of able bodied men at the Ezu River in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State made  the commendation recently when members of the committee called on him at the Government House, Enugu.

Chime, who spoke through the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Amechi Okolo, indicated the readiness of his government and the people of Enugu State to assist the committee in its investigation to expose the perpetrators of the dastardly act.

Maintaining that the corpses dumped at the river were human beings and were that of Nigerians, Governor Chime made it clear that government and the people of Enugu State would not fold their arms and watch human beings wasted in such manner.

In his words: “We will do everything within our powers to ensure that the perpetrators are exposed”,

Governor Chime, therefore, called for interactive action between the committee members and relevant agencies in the state with a view to finding the root cause of the worrisome incident.

Earlier in his speech, the leader of the committee and also  chairman Senate Committee on Police Affairs, Senator Paulinus Igwe Nwagu,  called on the government and people of the State to assist the committee in getting to the root cause of the incident.

He noted that the Senate constituted the committee in order to find out those responsible for the dumping of dead bodies at the river with a view to forestalling future occurrences.

According to him, the victims had homes and relations that could be traced with a view to finding out what happened to them, revealing that they had made a similar visit to Anambra State as the river affected the two states and had interacted with the government and people of the state who had made useful statements.

The committee used the occasion to call for the co-operation of the people of Enugu State to enable it get to the root cause of the incident.
