Association Advises Farmers On Early Rains
The Grain Farmers Association has advised farmers to use the early rainfall to cultivate their crops.
Mr Sunday Arinola Chairman of the association in Oriade Local Government Area of Osun, gave the advice recently in a chat with newsmen at Ipetu-Ijesa.
The chairman said this year’s early rainfall had provided great opportunity for hard working farmers to invest more in the cultivation of arable crops.
“There is an assurance that farmers will have bumper harvest as a result of the early rainfall and any investment in the sector would not be regretted,” he said.
He stated that members of the association had been sensitized and mobilized on the need to invest more in arable crops this year.
Arinola said necessary arrangements were on for the procurement of fertilizer, chemicals and other inputs for a successful farming season in the area.
He further said that the association’s members would cultivate not less than 60 hectares of maize in the current farming season.
Arinola, who expressed optimism on a ready market, said: “The state government has provided free rail service to transport our goods to Lagos for market.
“Apart from that, we have partnered with some breweries that have shown their readiness to buy our products.”
He called on jobless youths to embrace farming instead of waiting for white-collarjobs.
