The Special Adviser on Sports to the Ondo State Government, Akin Akinbobola, has said that Akure Township Stadium is ready for use.

Akinbobola told Tidesports yesterday in Lagos that Sunshine Stars FC would now play its Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) matches in Akure.

Sunshine Stars could not play its league matches in Akure because of the renovation work, and had to play its matches at the Dipo Dina Stadium in Ogun.

“The stadium is ready for use, the renovation work is complete and we are excited that our league matches would be played in our home turf where our fans can come and watch.

“Prior to now, we usually don’t have the type of home support that we wanted in Ijebu Ode, but now we are confident that our players will enjoy more fan support.

“I was at the stadium some days back with our governor, and after that we played a ceremonial match for our captain, Godfrey Oboabona, who has made us proud,” Akinbobola said.

On Sunshine Star’s preparation for the new season, Akinbobola said the club had been exposed to quality friendly matches to tune up the team.

“You know the league has been off for about six months now, and we also have some new players in our fold, so we need to expose the team to friendlies.

“We need to ensure that the players are fully fit before the 2012/2013 league season commences,” Akinbobola said.
