Abdullahi Explains International Ministers Sports Conference

The Minister of Sports, Bolaji Abdullahi, has urged African Education Ministers and Sports to attend the 5th International Conference of Ministers and Senior Officials Responsible for Physical Education and Sports (MINEPS V).

Abdullahi made the call in Abuja yesterday at the opening of the meeting of African Regional Working Group of Experts on CIGEPS Commission II of MINEPS V.

He said that MINEPS V scheduled for May 28 and 30 in Berlin, Germany, was to tackle the most pressing challenges in sports.

The minister added that the conference would also benefit the participating nations on how to do their work in the regions.

According to him, the conference will also discuss fundamental right for all, promoting investment in sports and physical education programmes and preserving the integrity for African sports.

“All these areas are, indeed, a prime concern and interest to us in this region as well as other developing countries as the outcome will certainly be of immense benefit to the way we do our work in the region,” he said.

He said he believed that the meeting would also bring out robust recommendations that would be channelled toward socio-economic climax in the region.

The Director-General, National Sports Commission (NSC), Dr Patrick Ekeji, said that Nigeria had the first hand privilege to deliberate with experts on changing the approach of investment in sport.

Ekeji noted that the Berlin Conference would be a profitable meeting that would promote investment and education in the country.
