18th NSF Facilities Still In Good Shape

Three months after the 18th National Sports Festival (NSF) tagged: “Eko 2012“ ended in Lagos, the sporting facilities used for the fiesta have remained in good shape, due to proper maintenance.

The festival, held for 14-days between November 27 and December 9.

The state-owned facilities were at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere; Onikan Stadium, Lagos Island; Mobolaji Johnson Sports Centre, Yaba; the Agege Stadium, Agege and the National Stadium, Lagos.

Other facilities not belonging to the state were the University of Lagos, Akoka; the Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), Lagos and the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan.

A check by Tidesports revealed that at the state-owned facilities they were in good shape, due to their regular use for training and competitions.

The Facility Manager, Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Godson Uti, told Tidesports that the state-owned facilities were still in good shape because they were properly maintained.

“The Lagos State Government invested lot of money on the facilities and will not allow them to deteriorate.

“The state government even before the festival had engaged the services of Deux Project Ltd, that ensured the proper maintenance of the facilities.

“With so much investment on the facilities, the only way to keep them in good shape is to imbibe a good maintenance culture.

“The Deux Projects Ltd. has been doing well by maintaining the facilities and keeping them in perfect shape,’’ he said.

Uti added that hosting regular training and competitions on the facilities also kept them in proper shape, since they were not abandoned.

He said that the facilities were also open for the use of sports federations and the state associations.

The manager added that the state government was also liaising with corporate bodies and public-spirited individuals for more regular competitions on the facilities.

He said that their regular use was to prevent abandonment and to ensure that they were adequately maintenance.
