TUC Decries Poor Condition Of East/West Road
The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) Rivers State Council has expressed the Union’a displeasure over the deplorable condition of the East West Road.
In an interview with The Tide, the State Chairman of TUC Comrade Chika Onuegbu said the comments made by Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Godsday Orubebe were unnecessary diversionary commends from the reality and failure of the Ministry of Niger Delta to complete the construction of the East-West Road on schedule.
Comrade Onuegbu said the organized Labour were pained by the fact that rather than the Minister to focus on how to complete the East West Road, he chose to divert attention from the real issues.
The Labour leader said the importance of the East West Road to the Nigeria’s economy and the Niger Delta Region cannot be overemphasized in term of facilitating movement and development in the region.
He said the least the people and governors of the Niger Delta states expect from the Minister who eventually is from Niger Delta is specific and verifiable details of how he intends to complete the East-West Road project before 2015.
The Union boss said the East-West Road in recent times has claimed several lives many of whom are Niger Deltans.
Comrade Onuegbu said the organized Labour within the Niger Delta Region call on the Minister to focus on how he will make the people of the Region feel the positive democratic impact of his Ministry as justification of its creation by the Late President Musa Yar Adua.
He urged the Honourable Minister to concentrate on the objective of bringing critical development projects to the Region.
Meanwhile, the Honourable Minister Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs Godsday Orubebe has stated that the East-West Road would be completed by December 2014.
He stated this while on tour of the East-West Road construction recently.
