Traders Hail Roads Rehabilitation In Abia
Traders in Ariaria International Market, Aba in Abia, have commended Governor Theodore Orji for the ongoing road rehabilitation around the market.
Orji had last year assured the residents of Aba of more roads rehabilitation and construction before the commencement of this year’s rainy season.
Some of the traders said in Aba on Tuesday that the governor had kept to his words.
A trader, Mr Tony Okoro said the rehabilitation of the roads had helped to boost activities in the market, stressing that traders and customers had suffered untold hardships plying the bad roads there.
Another trader at the ‘Timber Line’ of the market, Mr Zubby Ahamba, said the rehabilitation and construction of drainage channels on both sides of the road would also reduce flooding.
Mr Stephen Nwachukwu, also a trader, urged the governor to ensure that the contractors handling the jobs did quality work.
Nwachukwu said the roads would bring back customers who had ran away because of their poor condition, especially when it rained.
“The governor has done well by rebuilding these roads. He should make sure that the contractors use quality materials. If not, the rains will wash the roads away,’’ he said.
Another trader, Mr Gilbert Osuagwu at ‘A’ line, urged the contractors to speed up their work to complete them before the rains start.
He said business activities had improved since the road rehabilitation commenced.
Chief Chidi Agbawo, a member of the reactivation and management committee of the market, said the project was important for the survival of business and economic activities in the market.
He said the governor’s gesture had given the market a facelift and made it an ideal international market.
