Skating Coaches Harp On Talents Hunt
Roller Skating Coaches last Saturday said that the ongoing Lagos Skating Trial Championship would help to discover and develop talents at the grassroots.
They told Tidesports in Lagos that the championship provided an opportunity for skating lovers to come and show their skills in the sport.
The championship, which began on February 9 with six clubs, will end on March 9 at the National Stadium, Lagos, with various events to be competed in.
The events include speed skating, skate ball, free style skating, aggressive skating and a mini-marathon, which will start and end at the National Stadium, Surulere.
Kings Kendrin, the Coach of Big Heart Skating Club, said that the competition would add to the popularity of the sport by attracting people to it.
“Since we started this competition we have been attracting the interest of the public. Our spectators are increasing by the day and people are showing interest in skating.
“I’m positive that at the end of the competition our followers and fan base would have doubled, if not tripled,” he said.
Donald Ogbukeze, the Coach of Xtreme Wheels International Skating Club, said the competition would serve as a means for grassroots development in the sport.
He noted that the sport was relatively new in the country and therefore needed frequent competitions to make a positive impact on fans and the public.
