RSIEC Reassures On Credible Elections
The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) has reiterated its commitment towards conducting free fair and transparent elections in seven Local Government Areas in February and March respectively.
The Commissioner in-charge of Media and Public Affairs, Ms Ibiso Dakoru, who made this known on Monday while briefing journalists on the preparedness of the electoral board, said the commission is on course for the election.
Dakoru disclosed that the Commission has collected the voters register from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and would display same at the various Local Government Areas were the elections will be held.
The commissioner noted that the Commission since the inception of the exercise, took a lot of things into consideration by organizing stakeholders meetings with the key people involved in the elections.
“The Commission is seriously focusing on security to avoid apathy. We are working out strategies on how to make the election peaceful and secure both people and election materials during the elections”, she said.
She continued that the Commission is adhering seriously to the time table released last December, explaining that the elections is in seven local government areas.
Ms Dakoru explained further that the Commission has recruited about 1,500 adhoc staff for the-run, by-elections and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government elections.
According to her, “The names of the recruited adhoc staff have been published. We await objectives from the public”.
She, however, commended the political parties for peacefully organising their primaries, adding that the Commission will be transparent in all its activities with a view to restoring the confidence of the people.
