Rivers NBA Mourns Late Colleague

Members of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Rivers State Branch have extolled the qualities  their late colleague, Barrister Samuel Onyenam Nwogu.

Speaking at the Special Court session held in honour of the deceased  at the Law Centre Complex, Port Harcourt at the weekend, the State Chief Judge, Justice Iche N. Ndu while, expressing the sympathy of the State Judiciary to the family described the late colleague as a very active and vivacious man.

Represented by Justice Daisy W. Okocha, he said it was not how a man died but how he lived that mattered; for in the midst of life we are in death.

According to him, as humans, we differ from all other creatures because we are mortals, adding that death is nature’s way of telling us (humans) to show down.

“Death not only pays all debts, it is the great leveler. So for our deceased valedictory guest of honour, late Chief (Barr) S. O. Nwogu, his lifetime was a story of success against all odds, a story of ability in disability.”

“Little did his contemporaries believe that he could go far in his academic, legal and political career. But by dint of hard work, courage, characteristic commitment and selflessness, he was very successful in his legal and political life” he added.

The State Chief Judge noted that deceased impacted positively on numerous lives and left an indelible mark in the annals of not just the legal profession, but on the political terrain of the nation and prayed the almighty God to give the family of the deceased the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

In his own speech, the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Hon. Wogu Boms described the late colleague as a distinguished lawyer who possessed all professional qualities of a lawyer and added that he was not weighed down despite being physically challenged.

The chairman of the NBA, Port Harcourt branch, Barrister Oko-Jaja and Chief Kola Babolola for Senior Advocates of Nigeria, (SAN), Rivers State Branch, said that the late colleague would be remembered for his uprightness and truthfulness and urged the family members to take solace in God adding that the legacies their late father left while alive would continue to be evergreen.
