Rivers Demands N105bn From FG …As Refund For Fed Projects Executed In The State

The Rivers State government has appealed to the Federal Government to refund the sum of N105 billion, which it used to execute federal projects in the state.

Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi made the appeal last Friday when he led the Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku and members of the National Good Governance Tour (NGGT) Team on a visit to Port Harcourt-Owerri Road.

Amaechi said;”We are begging the Federal Government to pay us the money we used to execute federal projects in the state. So far, we have executed N105 billion worth of federal projects.

“We have fulfilled all requirements as demanded by the Federal Ministry of Works and we are appealing to minister of Information to tell them to pay us our money.”

He said his administration had executed a total of 405 kilometres of federal roads in the state since he came to power on October 25, 2007, adding that the projects were for the interest of the people of the state.

In his speech, Minister of Information, Labaran Maku commended the governor for assisting the federal government by executing projects that are people-oriented.

Earlier, the commissioner for Works, Chief Victor Giadom said the 42 kilometre Port Harcourt axis of the Port Harcourt-Owerri dual carriage road was being executed at the cost of N37 billion.

Giadom stated that the road, which is one of the federal projects, being executed by the state government, would be completed before end of May 2013.
