The National President of the Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers Union (RATTAWU), Comrade Yemisi Bamgbose, has called for stiffer penalties for those who mismanaged the pension funds in the country.

Comrade Bamgbose disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja, stressing that the stiffer penalties would serve as a deterrent to others.

He said the issues of pension fund scam had taken a dangerous dimension, stressing that “the China option” of handling corruption should be adopted in such crime in the country.

The Union Leader said the Chinese method of imposing the death penalty on any corrupt public and political official should be adopted to nip the level of corruption in the bud in Nigeria.

Comrade Bamgbose said that he supports the China option of dealing with corruption, although some people are saying it is too harsh, but that is the only option to stop this criminality and the monumental fraud going on.

He stressed that countries such as Singapore, the People’s Republic of China, Vietnam and Taiwan are today exploring the death penalty option to curb corruption.

He said corruption would reduce drastically in the country when those entrusted with public funds were constantly reminded of the stiff penalties they had to face if found guilty of corruption and mismanagement of the funds entrusted under their responsibility.

Similarly, the National President National Union of Communication Technology Employees (NUCTE) Comrade Sunday Alhassan has advised the Federal government to pay pensioners as at when due to curb corruption and mismanagement.

He said government should respect those people that have spent their useful years for the country by paying them their pension at the right time when due.

Comrade Alhassan said the people entrusted with the fund won’t be able to spend the money if government pay the owners of the money at the right time when due, stressing that there won’t be any money to embezzle and mismanaged.

The Labour Leader said that it is obvious that a lot of people are corrupt, stressing that government should keep money where those who superintend over it can embezzle it.

Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police Mohammed Abubakar has declared that the embattled Pension Reform Taskforce Chairman Alhaji Abdulrasheed Maina has escaped from the country.

He stated this before the Senate Police Affairs to answer question on the police inability to arrest the Pension Reform Task Force boss.

The Pension Reform Taskforce boss Alhaji Abdulrasheed Maina is being asked to account for about N469 billion Pension funds mismanaged.
