Priest Harps On Moral Values In Children
A Catholic Priest, Rev. Fr. John Nwafor, has charged the National Council of Women Societies (NCWS) to take up the responsibilities of inculcating moral values in children.
Preaching a sermon at the Holy Ghost Cathedral in Enugu at a thanksgiving service for the society, Nwafor noted that many women had abandoned their responsibilities at home in pursuit of economic fortunes.
“Many mothers no longer teach their daughters domestic chores. Some marriages break down these days because many girls can neither cook nor take care of their homes. ‘So, I am urging mothers, especially the NCWS, to take it up as a challenge by giving their daughters responsibilities and training them to be good wives and good citizens,” he said.
Speaking in an interview, the President of the Enugu Branch ofNCWS, Dr Rita Ngwu, said the thanksgiving was to present the new executive elected in October to God.
Ngwu said the society was also thanking God for the quick recovery of Gov. Sullivan Chime, whom they expected would be back soon.
She said the society had lined up activities to empower women politically and economically this year.
“I am calling on all women organisations in the state to identify with the NCWS so that women can speak and act with one voice,” the president said.
Ngwu said the society would inaugurate its Local Government chapters as part of efforts to mobilise more women in the state.
She thanked the wife of the governor and patron of the association, Mrs Clara Chime, for her support.
