Police Charge Man To Court Over Assault
The Bori Area Command Police has confirmed the arrest of one Surli Kponee in connection with an alleged attack on one Christian Barile in Yeghe Community Gokana Local Government Area.
The Area Commander, ACP Aliyu Garba who said this in a telephone interview with The Tide on Monday said that the police has already charged the suspect to court.
Mr. Christian Barile had at the weekend told journalists in Port Harcourt that he was beaten up by suspected thugs hired by two prominent men in the community following his refusal to stand as a witness against one Solomon Ndigbara over the killing of Engr. Clement Faah and his pius from the United States of America (USA, who were gruesomely murdered last year).
Mr Barile further told newsmen that two prominent citizens of Yeghe had approached him on the matter with a promised to give him the sum of N1.8million but he refused their offer.
He said that it was against this background that the two men (name withheld) sent some thugs to kill him, but he escaped from them after being beaten to stupor.
Mr. Barile said that he was later rushed to Inadum Clinic Bori where he is currently receiving treatment and urged for justice.
Also speaking, Mr. Penu Burabari Zortra said that they are being intimidated for refusing to testify against Chief Solomon Ndigbara over the killing of Faah and his friend Pius, stressing that if not for the intervention of God, he would have been killed.
He also stressed the need for justice to be done on the matter, stressing that the only way to checkmate reoccurrence is to ensure that culprits are punished.
