Pillars Eye CAF Title
Kano Pillars have boosted their chance of making it to the next round of the CAF Champions League after beating Olympique Real de Bangui 5-1 last Saturday evening in Kano.
A 15th-minute goal from Bello Musa put the Nigerian champions ahead, before Nasiru Ali’s 38th minute goal extended the hosts’ advantage.
The team from Central African Republic pulled a goal back, but Pillars held onto their one-goal advantage, going into the interval to ensure the scores remained 2-1.
Nasiru Ali scored his second goal of the game in the 58th minute to extend Pillars’ advantage, before Rabiu Ali added his name to the score sheet on the 68th minute to make it 4-1 in favour of the hosts.
A further goal from Nafiu Ibrahim later in the game gave the Nigerian champions a comfortable lead going into the second-leg of the preliminary stage which comes up in a fortnight.
Nigeria’s other representative in the competition, Rangers Int’l of Enugu, will play against Sporting Club do Principe of Sao Tome and Principe on Sunday evening at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu.
