Obolo Unity Summit, Political Deception – Group
The proposed First Obolo Unity Summit slated for today Friday has been described as a political deception by the Forum of Andoni Nation (FAN).
The Forum of Andoni Nation (FAN) who stated this in a statement on Wednesday in Port Harcourt, said the organizers of the summit wants to use the summit to advance their personal and individual political ambitions as it advised all Obolos to disregard the summit which they claimed will not address the general interest and problems of the people of Andoni Local Government Area.
In a statement signed by Chief C. Njah and Chief Z. E. Elebe, the group raised alarmed that some politicians in Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State were hiding under the guise of the proposed summit to seek platform for political aspirations in 2015.
The Forum in the statement also claimed that the organizers of the proposed summit lack moral legitimacy to canvas the unity of Obolo nation, alleging that the organizers had failed the Obolo people when they had better political opportunities to advance the people and area.
According to the group, no unity summit was summoned when the Local Government Area was under militant’s siege and communal clashes, engulfed the area; wy no when we have peace”.
The grouped however urged the chairman of Andoni Local Government Area, to implement the directive of Governor Chibuike Amaechi not to allow why political gathering of any kind in any part of Rivers State.
FAN also argued that Ida Obolo is traditionally constituted by the Okaan-Amas. Chiefs, elites and well meaning Sons cutting across the all the communities of Andoni to provide leadership and its pronouncement binding on all communities.
It further noted that they were against the proposed unity summit because the organizers had done same in the past which made no impact on the people, alleging that the organizers o the summit usually whip up sentiment to gain political relevance.
