An official of the Nigeria School Sports Federation (NSSF) yesterday urged the Federal Government to make school sports attractive, to facilitate the speedy development of sports in the country.

Chairman, Delta Chapter of NSSF Mr Christopher Omughele, told Tidesports in Port Harcourt that making school sports attractive would enhance the development in the sector.

According to him, transformation in NSSF has rather been slow because of challenges posed by poor funding of school sports.

He said that if government could invest generously in school sports, more talents would be identified for grooming.

“The festival has reached this level because of the resources available that have been maximally used to ensure that events wear a new look,” Omughele said.

The chairman urged school children to key into sporting events as a way of supporting government’s development objectives.

He said: “any child who is academically good can also be good in sports. Sports have a lot of advantages socially and physiologically. It also helps in uniting people.

“There are other norms and values in sports like discipline, which I believe will also help the children to ensure a balanced moral growth,” Omughele said.

The 5th NSSF was rounded up on February 2 in Port Harcourt, the Rivers capital.
