NNWL Congress Holds Feb 26

The Nigeria Nation-Wide League (NNWL) has said in Abuja that lack of funds caused the shifting of its congress to February 26.

The league’s secretary, Emmanuel Adesanya, told Tidesports that the football league organising body was short of funds.

The league, which is in three divisions and is the lowest cadre of the Nigerian annual football league, was earlier scheduled to hold its congress on Feb. 19.

“We need money to be able to hold the congress which will involve delegates from about 120 clubs from all the 36 states and the FCT,’’ Adesanya said.

He, however, said that the postponement did not flout the order by the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) that all league bodies must hold their congresses within a stipulated time.

The NFA Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on December 13 in Port Harcourt ordered that the congresses must hold not more than 90 days after the AGM.

“The new date for the congress is February 26 at the Nicon Luxury Hotel in Abuja, and all clubs in the Nation-Wide League, that is divisions one, two and three, are invited to the congress,’’ Adesanya said.

The secretary, however, disclosed that the kick-off date for the 2012/2013 NNWL League remains March 2.
