NMA Clamps Down On Quack Doctors
The war against quackery by the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), is finally yielding positive results.
According to the chairman of the association, Ibitrokoemi Faye Korubo, so far 25 quack doctors have been discovered in Rivers State, among whom is a top level officer with the State Ministry of Health.
Dr. Korubo who made this disclosure in his office, in an interview with The Tide, said, “we are looking at quack doctors, people who have no medical qualification, parading themselves as doctors, we’ve got 25 of them.
“A man that rose to the level of grade level 16 in the State Ministry of Health was discovered to be a quack; his name is Acumgbe Alexandra Theophilus. The Commissioner of Health, Permanent Secretary are working with us and the police are on him,” he continued.
He said what surprised them was how he rose to that level when he had not worked for the stipulated number of years.
“The first red light was how did he get to that level when he has worked for less than the number of years he should have to get to that position?”
He said “our job at NMA is ensuring the health and welfare of the people in our area of jurisdiction”.
Dr. Korubo noted that health was the driving force of the economy of any nation, saying that it was on that premise that NMA put the welfare of the people fist before the welfare of NMA members.
He said, “if we don’t have a physically, mentally and socially sound society, then there cannot be economic development.”
He promised that NMA will continue to look into the health of the society and government policies as they affect the people, adding that already the association has undertaken the education of the populace on common ailments and simple remedies.
He further said, “we will not relent, we will continue to look into the well-being of the society, for appreciable economic development.
