NAMA Explains Alteration In Landing Points
The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency – NAMA says the alteration in landing points of aircraft is a safety measure to avoid air mishaps detected by pilots.
The NAMA General manager, Port Harcourt International Airport, Mr. Francis Barile stated this in an interview with newsmen in Port Harcourt.
Mr. Barile who was reacting to complaints by some passengers concerning a London en-route Abuja flight that landed in Port Harcourt last month said ‘pilots cannot forfeit safety just to please passengers”.
According to him, we are for safety, but that does not mean Nigerian airspace was safe nor the equipment non-functional.
“The Nigerian airspace has embarked on several reforms. The sector will be best compared to their comtemporaries in developing countries when the remodeling is completed”, he said.
Barile described innovations in the sector as providing for highly scientific and expensive airspace that enhance aircraft navigation.
“We now have a device called Omni directional range. The equipment is able to give you your bearing from point A to Point B”, he added.
