Minister Urges Distribution Of Relief Materials

The Minister of State for FCT, Ms Olajumoke Akinjide has urged Oyo State Government to commence immediate distribution of relief materials from Federal Government to rainstorm victims in Ibadan.
This is contained in a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja by Alhaji Kehinde Isiaka, Media Assistant to the Minister.
The statement recalls that hundreds of residents were rendered homeless when violent windstorm destroyed houses on the Feb. 17, 2013 in some local Government in the state.
It stated that the Federal Government, through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), had donated relief materials to reduce the suffering of the victims.
“The Federal Government had responded immediately to the unfortunate incident by sending relief materials through NEMA to the victims in the state.
“The Federal Government’s compassionate response was being negated by the refusal of the Oyo State Government to flag off the distribution of the materials”, the statement added.
It stated that the affected Local Governments included Oluyole, Ona Ara, Ibadan South West, Ibadan South East and Ido.
The statement noted that the 15-man team of NEMA has expressed displeasure over the lack of cooperation by the Oyo State Emergency Management Agency and government who kept postponing the distribution of the items.
“The distribution which was earlier scheduled for 2 pm on the 21st February and moved to February 22, 2013, was later aborted by the State Emergency Management Agency”, it stated.
It stated that the relief materials donated by the Federal Government included 2,000 roofing sheets, 800 bags of cement, 600 bags of rice, 500 roofing nails, 1,000 Zinc nails, 1,200 blankets, 2,000 mats, 300 mattresses, and 2,400 2x4x12 planks.
