Malians Celebrate Qualification

Hundreds of Malian youths took to the streets of Bamako on Saturday to celebrate their team’s qualification for the semi-finals of the ongoing 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in South Africa.

Incidentally, it was the South African hosts that Mali knocked out 4-2 on penalties to qualify.

The match ended 1-1 after 120 minutes of play, before the Malians scored three of their kicks, while South Africa scored only one.

Car drivers and motor cyclists were blaring their horns in the city centre in celebration, in spite of the state of emergency imposed across the country following the war against Islamist insurgents in the north.
