LG To Partner Security Agencies On Crime Control
The Ivo Local Government Council of Ebonyi State has pledged to assist security agencies to prevent, control and combat crime in the area.
The Council Chairman, Mr Celestine Eze, made the pledge at the inauguration of a 14-seater Mitsubishi L300 bus, donated to the Nigeria Police, Ivo Divisional Police Headquarters by the council, Monday
Eze said the bus was donated to tackle security challenges posed by criminals in the area, adding that the gesture would enhance the performance of the police in the area.
While soliciting for support from all residents, he reiterated the commitment of the council to supporting security organisations to wipe out criminals and criminal activities.
The chairman described security as everybody’s business, saying that all stakeholders must join hands to eliminate criminals and criminality in the society. “When we cooperate with the police and other security agencies by giving out information about criminals in our midst, the police will be able to nip their activities in the bud. “It is a duty we owe to ourselves and to the society to expose criminal activities and those with questionable characters among us to police for prompt security action. “It is often said that security is everybody’s business; it is therefore a challenge to all of us to assist as well as partner with the police to effectively police our communities,’’ Eze said.
He said that reports of alleged child kidnapping, ritual killings and other forms of criminal acts in various parts of the area had become worrisome and demanded urgent action by the government.
Eze charged the divisional police office to make good use of the vehicle by ensuring proper surveillance and patrol.
“I urge officers and men of the division to utilise the bus adequately through proper patrol and surveillance of our communities, especially the border posts,’’ he said.
The Divisional Police Officer, Mr Robert Duru, commended the council for the gesture and assured judicious use of the vehicle.
He pledged to ensure effective policing of the area, saying “we will not rest on our oars until criminals are flushed out in this Local Government”.
