The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has won five councillorship seats out of the six wards in six local government areas where re-run and bye elections were held last Saturday.

The Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), Prof Augustine Ahiauzu while announcing the results last Saturday evening said in Eleme Ward 6, and Opobo/Nkoro Ward 1 the PDP candidates were returned unopposed.

In Ward 5, Asari Toru Local Government, the PDP was declared winner with 124 votes beating the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) candidate who scored 10 votes, while in Khana Local Government Area Ward 17, the PDP scored 1,626, votes while ACN and APGA scored two votes and 81 votes respectively.

In Ahoada East bye election, the PDP won with 173, and ACN 100.

The result of Oyigbo Ward 8  was not ready as it was reported that hoodlums attacked RSIEC staff and hijacked electoral materials.

Meanwhile, the All Progressive Ground Alliance (APGA), Rivers State chapter has expressed optimism that the party will be declared winner in last Saturday’s re-run election in Ward 8, Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The State chairman of APGA, Mr Terry Godfrey stated this in Oyigbo after the electoral officer of last Saturday re-run election had alleged that some units results were hijacked by some hoodlums.

Mr Godfrey called on the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) to declare APGA winner of the Ward 8 councillorship election, Oyigbo and also disqualify the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) councillorship candidate for aiding  and abetting violence and destruction of electoral materials after a free and fair election in the Ward.

The party urged the State Chairman of RSIEC to declare APGA the winner without further delay, for justice and equity.

Also speaking, the PDP Chairman in Oyigbo Local Government Area, Mr Chijioke Azu called for cancellation of the election as he alleged that the election was inconclusive.

Azu said the PDP in the area would not accept any result, if there is no evidence to show the true reflection of the collected results from all the units of the Ward.

The Tide correspondent who monitored the election in Oyigbo reports that the problem started when some un-identified persons hijacked the result sheet.

When contacted, the Commissioner in-charge of Media and Public Affairs, Ms Ibiso Dakoru said the commission will come up with a statement on Monday and that the commission was studying  the reports.
