LASG Gives Ultimatum To Owners Of Abandoned Vehicles
The Lagos State Government last Wednesday warned owners of abandoned vehicles in the state to remove them within three days or risk having them impounded. The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Kayode Opeifa, gave the warning in a statement made available to The Tide in Lagos.
“Owners of abandoned vehicles, especially in Surulere, Mainland, Mushin, Agege, and other Local Governments in the state, should remove their vehicles immediately.
“Members of the Committee on Abandoned and Disused vehicles will commence a statewide removal of abandoned vehicles with effect from Jan. 28, 2013, starting from Surulere Local Government, Itire – Ikate and Coker – Aguda Local Council Development Areas,” he said.
The commissioner said that the state government would not hesitate to remove any vehicle that could serve as haven for criminals, impede the free flow of traffic or threaten the safety and security of the people. Opeifa urged Community Development Associations (CDAs) and residents not to hesitate to contact the ministry whenever they noticed abandoned or disused vehicles in their communities.
The Commissioner also directed automobile mechanics operating by the Third Mainland Bridge close to the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) office at Sura, Ilubirin to vacate the entire stretch of the road within three days. He said that at the expiration of the ultimatum, any mechanic found operating within the axis would be sanctioned.
Opeifa implored individuals who had their vehicles in these illegal mechanic villages to remove them immediately as the car owners would bear the cost, if their vehicles were towed.
