Kwara Inaugurates Committee For Soccer Tournament
The Kwara Government has inaugurated a committee for its Five-A-Aside Soccer Tournament tagged “Kwara Street Soccer 2013.’’
Inaugurating the committee, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, Mrs Rhoda Ajiboye, charged the members to scout for talented footballers who could represent the state in future tournaments.
Ajiboye said government’s efforts at improving sports needs to be complemented with inputs from both the private sector and individuals in the society.
She said government had decided to re-awaken sports at the grassroots through talent-hunt in its 16 local government areas, adding that the tournament would kick off on March 16.
“This is done to take the state to an enviable height in sports. It will also help the government to discover more talents on our streets,’’ the permanent secretary said.
She said sporting events were veritable means of arresting youth restiveness thereby promoting an environment that is conducive for economic development.
Ajiboye implored the committee to display a high sense of responsibility as the assignment was a call to serve the state, adding that the success of the tournament depended largely on their commitment.
The committee’s Chairman and Director, Sports Development in the ministry, Alhaji Sanni Lukpan, said the body would carry out its assignment diligently.
