JTF Laments Accommodation Shortage
The Joint military Task Force (JTF) in Port Harcourt has identified accommodation shortage for its personnel as a major challenge in its effort at providing security for Nigerians in the area.
Maj.-Gen.Tukur Buratai, the Commander of the 2 Brigade, made the remark last Thursday in Port Harcourt, Rivers, during the commissioning of a Garrison Standby hall and a Mess Chalet for officers.
Buratai, who is also the JTF Sector Two Commander, said efforts were being made to address the accommodation challenge and improve the welfare for personnel to ensure high productivity.
He said that the Army was presently collaborating with the Rivers government, agencies and companies to build more accommodation for soldiers in the barrack.
“We will continue renovating and attracting more of our friends to come into the barrack to assist in alleviating the accommodation problem within the barrack.
“Right now, the Rivers state government is constructing five blocks of ten flats each; we also have the NDDC constructing a block of 30 flats each; and Total E&P is also renovating six blocks of ten flats each,” he said.
“Contracts have been awarded for the renovation of five officers’ quarters; three blocks of 20 rooms each as well as the renovation of the warrant officers and sergeant mess.
“I’m sure that by the time the projects are completed, the accommodation problem will reduce drastically,” he added.
