Imo Vows To Check Flooding
The Imo Commissioner for Works and Transport, Mr Nick Oparandudu, has said that plans have been concluded by his ministry to check flooding in Owerri.
The commissioner disclosed this while addressing engineers in his ministry in Owerri recently.
He regretted that flooding had remained a source of worry as it had disrupted socioeconomic activities in the state capital.
Oparandudu, therefore, called on the engineers to hasten action on the inspection and evaluation of the drainage system in the municipality.
He said that constant repair of the drainage was going to be the first charge of the ministry if flood was to be minimised.
The commissioner urged the engineers to ensure strict supervision of projects and ensure their observation was written and submitted for review.
He stressed the need for capacity building for engineers to make them abreast of modern inventions and technologies in the field.
