As encomiums continue to trail the investment of the present administration in Rivers State on the education sector, the Good Governance Team has described the new model primary and secondary schools built by the Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi administration as wonderful infrastructure that could guarantee good education of the children at foundation level.

Leader of the team and Minister of Information, Mr Labaran Maku made the remarks at Ambassador Inne Kurubo Secondary School, Ebubu in Eleme Local Government Area while inspecting the school.

The Minister who noted that foundation level remains very crucial in the educational growth of the child commended the Rivers State Governor Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi for the infrastructure.

The minister however, charged the governor to also take the issue of teachers’ motivation in the school seriously because of the negative impact poor remuneration could have on the morale of teachers in the school system.

The advice became imperative in view of the observation made by one of the participants that teachers in the Model School managed by Educomp Solutions Nigeria Limited a foreign outfit was lower than that what their counterparts in the government runned public schools receive.

Mr Maku further advised Governor Amaechi to take steps towards ensuring that infrastructure in other public schools in the state were also upgraded to avoiding creating class differences.

“While you keep model schools going, it is important you fix the other schools to also motivate the teachers and pupils in them,” the minister said.

The minister further advised the governor to engender competition in the running and management of the Model schools by involving not only foreigners but Nigerians stressing that the spirit of competitiveness results in improvement.

Earlier, Gov. Amaechi said the Ambassador Inne Kurubo Secondary School was a model and replica of Ajimota Secondary School in Ghana with all hostel, laboratory, recreational, class facilities for teachers and students.

The school which he said is first of the 24 in the state has international standard.
