Flood: RSG Distributes Relief Materials To Victims

The Rivers State Government has handed over relief materials and farm seedlings to three local government areas of the state for distribution to farmers affected by the recent flood disaster in the state.

The farm seedlings, which include bundles of cassava stem, yam, plantain and banana suckers, were handed over to the chairman, Abua/Odual Local Government Council and his Ahoada East and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni counterparts for distribution to their farmers.

The Commissioner for Special Duties, Barrister Dickson Umunakwe, who performed the handover ceremony in the respective local government council headquarters, said that the gesture was part of the ongoing efforts by the state government to rehabilitate the farmers.

Barrister Umunakwe said that the gesture was aimed at bringing succour to the farmers whose farms had been washed off by the disaster.

The commissioner said that the situation was a reflection of the love and care which Governor Chibuike Amaechi has , not only for victims of the disaster, but the entire citizenry of the state.

He, however, said that government would not stop at this level as the  situation would be sustained.

The commissioner also stressed the need for the affected councils to ensure that the seedlings get across to all farmers affected by the disaster.

In their separate responses, the chairman of Abual/Odual Local Government Council, Mr Udi Odum and his Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni counterpart, Hon Raymond Nwokocha thanked Governor Chibuike Amaechi for the gesture, promising that all farmers affected by the flood would be made to benefit from the exercise .

Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Special Duties, Barrister Dickson Umunakwe has given a seven-day ultimatum to those who encroach on land belonging to the  Rivers State Five Service at  Ahoada to vacate the area.

The commissioner, who gave the order during an unscheduled visit to Ahoada Fire Station also said that the ministry would carry out the fencing of the area.
