FG Assures On Projects In Rivers
The three-day Good Governance Tour ended Saturday in Rivers State with a promise by the federal government to compete all on-going projects in the state.
Minister of Information, Mr Labaran Maku, who led the team, stated this during the town hall session of the tour team with Rivers Stakeholders at Alfred Diete Spiff Sport Complex.
He said the president administration inherited a situation where every sector was abandoned but noted that the administration was determined more that ever to turn them around, and appealed for the patience of the people of the state.
The minister said in terms of infrastructure, the government was targeting rail system and power and that the federal government’s power project in Omoku being under the Public Private Partnership was at near completion stage.
“We have virtually completed Omoku Power Plant and by end of the year, Omoku Power plant will deliver and hook onto the national grid, he said, stressing that power is the number one priority of the president administration.
He also said nine other power plants were ongoing in various parts of Nigeria andthat by 2014, most of them would be commissioned and expressed confidence tht power would drive the nation’s economy.
He also disclosed that the fourth Onne Sea Port was ongoing and would be commissioned soon.
Commenting on the East-West Road project, the formation minister revealed that the project has been problematic because of improper budgetary allocation but assured that more money has bee deployed, saying that by end of 2014, the project would be delivered.
Mr Maku soliciated the cooperation of the Niger Delta people, particularly as the President who is the sons of the region means so well for them.
“What we need for development, more than anything is security’, he said, adding that the people of the area must not allow instability in the region again..
If Niger Delta is develop, Nigeria is developed. You are our region of great natural resources, so security must continue to improve, he appealed.
