FERMA To End Era Of Bad Roads
The head of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) in Imo state, Ms Agnes Adimelechi, has reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to rehabilitate deplorable federal roads in the state.
Adimelechi said in an interview with newsmen in Owerri on Monday that efforts were being made by the agency to complete and inaugurate the Owerri-Okigwe road in September.
Until the intervention of FERMA last year, the road was almost inaccessible to motorists, especially along Akabo axis.
The engineer said the agency had also recorded huge successes on the Owerri -Onitsha, Owerri-Aba and Ihiala-Orlu roads.
She said that the agency was committed to upholding its mandate of making sure that federal roads were well maintained.
Adimelechi said that the attention of the Federal Government had been drawn to other roads that needed to be worked upon in the state.
She warned the people to stop burning tires on roads, considering that such action was capable of damaging asphalted roads.
She said it was also wrong to allow fuel tankers to discharge products on highways as fuel could damage the roads.
Adimelechi commended the Federal Government for its efforts to re-activate rail transportation in the country, adding that the development would help to keep and make the roads last longer.
