Ex-African Champion Plans Big For Scrabble
Former African Champion in scrabble, Sunday Oshodi, has said that he plans to produce athletes that would take over from old athletes in the state.
Oshodi disclosed this in an interview with the Tidesports in Port Harcourt recently during the just concluded National School Sports festival in the state.
He said that the athletes that represented Rivers State at the NSSF were produced the best, adding that the young athletes were picked from various schools and groomed for the NSSF competition as well as future engagement.
He explained that the 5th NSSF was their first competition, as well as the first for the state to host the competition.
“I am doing this because of my passion for English Language and my love for the sport, I have been to several countries representing Nigeria and I hope to impart my wealth of experience and knowledge on the next generation of athletes that will replace us,” he said.
“I want them to be introduced to the sports at a youthful age, this is a mental game and they are at advantage as teenagers,” he noted.
He however, said that lack of fund is one of the challenges facing the development of the game and appealed for support from well meaning individuals and co-operate organizations in the state.
