Doctor Advises Women On Early Family Planning
A Gynaecologist with the Garki Hospital, Abuja, Dr Kayode Obendek, has advised women to start child-bearing early enough to avoid the chances of reduction in the quality of eggs in their wombs.
Obendek said in Abuja last Monday that early child-bearing would also address the issue of infertility.
He explained that some women jettisoned having children early in preference to the pursuit of education, career and fulfilled life thereby starting their family late.
“This is why you will see a woman coming at the age of 39 to seek for doctor’s assistance to raise a family. As she grows, her eggs continue to reduce with implication on her chances of having children,” he said.
He called on people with infertility issues to seek for medical help, pointing out that there were many causes of infertility that could be resolved by medical doctors.
“You cannot say take this drug to induce ovulation as there are so many drugs in town, the tubes may be blocked and the husband may be having low sperm count.
He, however, said that one should first of all identify the problems by going for screening and also to seek for medical solutions.
“Delayed child-bearing, which has increased greatly in recent decades, is associated with an increased risk of infertility, pregnancy complications and adverse pregnancy outcome.“
He said that women should put their age into consideration as maternal age was the most important determinant factor of fertility and obstetrics among others.
Obendek, however, advised couples to seek for counselling and professional help as they started their family to avoid delay.
