Chime Commissions Health Centre
A modern heath centre built and furnished by the Enugu state government for the people of Agbudu community in Awgu Local Government Area has been commissioned over the weekend by the state Governor, Barrister Sullivan I. Chime, with a call on the people of the area to patronize the centre.
Represented on the occasion by the state Commissioner for Rural Development, Dr. Eric Olaedo, Governor Chime urged the chairman of Awgu Local Government Council, as well as the people of the community to ensure adequate protection of all the equipment provided at the centre by the state government.
Reminding them that after commissioning, government has no more business at the centre, Governor Chime also charged them to provide all the needed security to avoid any form of vandalisation, adding that henceforth, the people of the community are now fully in charge of the day to day running of the health centre.
While urging the Awgu council chairman to ensure that both qualified doctors and nurses are posted to the centre without delay, Governor Chime equally charged all the medical workers that would be posted to the centre not only to carry out their duties diligently, but to be at their duty post at all times, as that would go a long way in giving the people of the area the needed healthcare services.
In a brief speech, the state coordinator, Community Development Project (CDP), Hon. Ede Nelson Nwachukwu, assured that all the communities that have not yet benefited from the state government’s rural development programme would soon smile like the people of Agbudu community.
Governor Chime, he went on, has vowed to leave no stone unturned not only in terms of rural development, but in the development of the entire Enugu state, pointing out that all the rural communities in the state must benefit from one development programme of the state or another before the end of the present administration’s tenure.
Also in an address of welcome by the Agbudu Community, presented by the President-General, Agbudu Town Union (ATU), Chief Eugene C. Eneh, described the official commissioning of the health centre as a turning point in the annals of the history of the town.
His words: “I said it is a turning point and stand to be corrected, because, for the first time since the existence of this community that a developmental project was undertaken (initiated and finished) by any government in power from colonial era, to military dictatorship, through civilian period or even transitional government”.
According to him, the present Enugu state government has brought succor to the people of Agbudu community, adding that “with all the development strides going on today in this community the governor has reshaped the face of this ancient town for good”.
He maintained that the Agbudu community would ever remain grateful to the present administration in the state, not only in terms of the commissioned health centre, but also for the ongoing reconstruction, expansion and reshaped ready for asphalting road, named Umuabi – Agbudu – Ihe road.
