CAN To Partner RSESA On Sanitation
In a bid to enhance sanitation conduct and consciousness in Rivers Sate, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has pledged to partner with the Rivers State Environmental Sanitation Authority (RSESA) to expand its scope of operations to the rural areas in the state.
Chairman of the Environmental Sanitation Committee of CAN, Arch Bishop Benjamin Obomanu, gave the pledge during the formal introduction of the committee to the Sole Administrator, of the Rivers Sate Environmental Sanitation Authority (RSESA) Mr. Ade Adeogun in his office last weekend.
Arch Bishop Obomanu, said CAN as a body was concerned about creating desired awareness, especially in the rural areas to ensure strict compliance to environmental exercises in Rivers State.
He noted that the involvement of churches in sanitation activities was paramount and assured that CAN would liaise with the Sanitation Authority to marshal out strategies of achieving cleanliness in the state.
According to Arch Bishop Obomanu, “tackling the complex activities of sanitation in Rivers State required that remote communities got properly sensitised and involved in sanitation exercises.”
In his remark, the Sole Administrator of the Rivers State Environmental Sanitation Authority, Mr. Ade Adeogun, thanked CAN for its solidarity and stated that their involvement in sanitation activities would spur greater participation.
Adeogun disclosed that most common ailments among families that required medical attention were caused by dirty environment.
He frowned against indiscriminate dumping of refuse within the living environment and called on Rivers people to imbibe a new sanitation culture that would reduce their vulnerability to sickness.
Adeogu also stated that liason offices will be established at strategic point in the state to enhance proper sensitisation of Rivers people on sanitation.
