The Chairman of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Bwari chapter in the FCT, Alhaji Musa Ijakoro, said  that farmers in the area needed 100 tractors for mechanised farming this year.

Ijakoro who made the call in an interview with newsmen said that at Bwari, we need up to 100 tractors to engage in mechanised farming in Bwari,’’.

Ijakoro appealed to the FCT Administration and the Council to assist in the supply of the 100 tractors to enable farmers in the area have good yield.

He said there was a vast land for farming in the area that could not easily be ploughed without the aid of tractors.

The chairman also appealed for prompt supply of fertiliser to farmers in the area to boost agricultural production and food security in the FCT.

He lamented that the inability of farmers to get fertiliser directly and at affordable prices, as at when due, normally slow down farming activities.

Ijakoro expressed optimism that Bwari farmers would record bumper harvest that would feed Abuja residents as soon as these needs were addressed.
