Association Decries Multiple Charges On Hotels
The National Coordinator, Nigerian Hotels Association (NHA), Mr Lanre Awoseyin, has criticised multiple charges and levies incurred by hotel owners in the country.
Awoseyin told newsmen in a telephone interview that such charges contributed to Nigerian hotels being ranked as one of the most expensive hotels globally.
He explained that hotel rooms and services became very expensive to make up for the excessive charges and levies paid to different levels of authority by operators.
“Multiple charges paid by Nigerian hotels have affected not only the hotel owners but the tourists who paid exorbitant prices to get comfort.
“Prospective investors can be discouraged by the excessive charges paid in the industry.
“Hotels that cannot cope with it reduced its workforce, thereby increasing the rate of unemployment in the country”, Awoseyin said.
He said that the multiple charges could constitute a hitch in the development of the hospitality industry in the country, if possible solution was not provided.
